Chair Report August 2010

Membership

Our current membership for NSW/ACT is 228 which is a 4% increase on this time last year.  We welcome our new members and look forward to meeting many members at the ADAPE International Conference in Adelaide.

Conference meeting point

Coming to the Conference but don't know too many people?  No problem!  We have organised a NSW/ACT meeting point at the Conference so we can scoop you up and introduce you to other members.  Looking forward to seeing you there!

Professional Development

Special Interest Groups

Marketing - Jackie Dalton, Newington College - venue Newington College
There was a large gathering of this group in  July to discuss advertising - what works and what doesn't; Newington's hospitality was superb as we all enjoyed lunch and plenty of idea swapping.  While advertising was the initial conversation starter both new and experienced attendees exchanged strategies and came away invigorated.

Fundraising - Mary Cook, Kincoppal-Rose Bay - venue Kirribilli Club
The view of the harbour, mezze plate and some good wine set the tone for an excellent strategy pooling for a small group of fundraisers.  It is clear that the size of the Special Interest has no bearing on the value of getting together and sounding out ideas.  By 7.00 pm we all agreed how worthwhile it is to spend the time to converse with colleagues.  Topics included social networking sites, school raffles and annual giving communication tools.

Alumni - Jane Rees, Danebank School
The Alumni SIG plan a get together on Tuesday evening, 26 October so if Alumni is your area of special interest, mark this date in your diary.  Further information will be sent closer to the evening.

Enrolments - Michael Atkins, Cranbrook and Bruce Perry, St Andrew's Cathedral School
Michael and Bruce will be at the Adelaide Conference and look forward to meeting those with a special interest in enrolments/admissions and organising a date for this SIG to meet so look out for Michael and Bruce at the Conference if this is your area of special interest.

Higher Education - Rebecca Palser, The University of Notre Dame Australia
Rebecca will be at the Conference and is looking forward to meeting members from the Higher Education sector of ADAPE.

Our next PD, "Grow Philanthropy, Anywhere, Anytime!" will be held on 10 August at the University of Sydney.  The presenter is US based Rod Miller from Executive Institutional Advancement Exchange.  This workshop is geared for Fundraisers, Advancement professionals in Higher Education and Schools, Development Executives and Not for Profit sector specialists.

Social Event

A combination of great Italian food, wine, networking, trivia and outright fun was the menu at the mid-winter social at Trovata Restaurant, East Sydney.  The venue was relaxed and our own space allowed some noisy celebration and seat swapping to maximise meeting new people.  We enjoyed the venue so much we have decided to return at the end of the year.  The Trivia Master has promised to improve the questions next time! ..... but it didn't deter us from a great time.
