From the President
Welcome to ADAPE Vic/Tas. Our membership of more than 200 (and growing) brings together a network of professionals all engaged in Development and Alumni Relations in Education. This covers such disciplines as marketing and communications, community relations, alumni relations, fundraising and enrolments. The institutions at which our members work are also varied – large and small independent and government primary and secondary schools, universities, independent university faculties, and residential colleges. Included in our member base we also have consultants, suppliers and institutional leaders.
Without doubt, for most people belonging to a ‘community’ or indeed multiple communities is one of the most valued aspects of life. Our view of ‘community’ has of course evolved from the town or suburb in which we grew up to also being the places where we chose to spend our time during the various chapters of our lives – the work-place, sports club, church and significantly, our school and university. In a world where loneliness has never been more prevalent and people hunger for that sense of connectedness, we are lucky to be working in the field of Development where we can be instrumental in drawing communities together for our various institutions.
Your Chapter committee is working hard to offer you a varied and rigorous Professional Development Program along with regular opportunities to meet and engage with each other. In particular, this year we continue the Special Interest Group workshops which will compliment the larger forums held each term. In July we will share a night of celebration, taking the opportunity to acknowledge the difference people from our membership are making in their community.
I hope you enjoy getting to know each other both through Friday Fortnight and through attending various workshops through the year. I hope ADAPE will come to be another valued ‘community’ in your life.
